Hello and welcome to you all. First of all I must say a big thank you to everyone who has showed their support after my battle with the clampers.
I have been nick named the hammer gran, because i smashed the clampers van with a hammer!. This was because they clamped me for an out of date Tax Disc. (Less than 36 hours after expiry, in my own parking bay, that was on private land!!).
This web site also tells of what I am doing to stop my housing association from clamping its own residents. (When im not in hammer gran mode!)
In the past year my block of flats and many others in Tower Hamlets have been handed over to a new housing association called the TCTH. This happened after the residents voted for them to take over from the old council.
They are a well-founded housing association that has given its own residents a bigger say in how they are governed. They are bringing much needed extra funding to this area and will be improving our much neglected inner city estates.
All in all the TCTH are a good organisation but I only have one bone of contention with them. The clamping of their own residents!
Previous to TCTH arriving, I was a tenant of the old council and have lived in my block and rented a car parking space for the past 25 years (or quarter of a century to add effect!)
In the past I have never been clamped in my own bay. The old council rules would let you park in your own bay without a valid tax disc if your parking permit was valid. After your parking permit ran out, you would be refused renewal unless you sorted out your tax disk. This was fair and took into account people who were sick or had simply forgot to renew their tax disc.
After TCTH arrived they introduced a new car management company (ISTM) to take control of parking on the estates. TCTH changed the rules so that they could clamp people in their own parking bays for not showing a valid tax disc.
This rule has caused a lot of problems for myself and other residents on the estates since its introduction. This is because ISTM are using this rule change to clamp people as soon as humanly possible and people have been given no specific information that ISTM are not working in conjuction with the DVLA.
There have been other members of our community who have been affected by this rule change.

Other instances are -

A fellow resident sent off for his Sorn (as he was following the law) 4 days before his tax disc ran out. Upon the DVLA receiving his SORN they sent back his SORN. On the first day of Oct 06 this gentleman was clamped and had his car lifted while he was waiting for a reply from the DVLA. This caused him utmost anxiety and depression, as it was the family car. The THCH rules were not clear in stating that they were not in communication with the DVLA with regards to SORN applications.

A man who had recently suffered a stroke was in hospital and once again he was clamped and fined due to these new rule changes. He was in hospital for 3 weeks and luckily his car was clamped but not lifted. He almost went home to the added stress of having his car missing.
